ICAR-CCARI and Goa University Partner with IHFC and Parachute Kalpavriksha Foundation to Revolutionize Coconut Harvesting unmanned nut and fruit harvesting device

    The ICAR-CCARI, Goa, in collaboration with Goa University, has entered into a landmark agreement with I-Hub Foundation for Cobotics (IHFC) and Parachute Kalpavriksha Foundation to develop and commercialize a cutting-edge, unmanned nut and fruit harvesting device. This innovation, jointly created by ICAR-CCARI and Goa University, is currently undergoing patent registration (Application No. 202021042421) and promises to redefine the coconut harvesting industry with a safer, more efficient, and time-saving solution. Under the MoU, IHFC will provide financial support and technical expertise, while Parachute Kalpavriksha Foundation will focus on investment, marketing, and distribution. ICAR-CCARI and Goa University will oversee the device’s development, testing, and validation in real-world scenarios, ensuring its readiness for farmers' use.

The MoU, signed on December 10, 2024, at Goa University, represents a significant step in bridging the gap between research and industry. Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Harilal B. Menon lauded the collaboration as a pioneering effort to address practical challenges through innovative solutions. Dr. Susha Lekshmi of IHFC reaffirmed their commitment to making the product reliable and accessible, while Mr. Aravind G.S. from Parachute Kalpavriksha pledged to engage extensively with coconut growers for stakeholder-level testing. Dr. Shripad Bhat from ICAR-CCARI assured us that the device would be expedited testing and deployed to benefit farmers. Echoing this sentiment, Dr. R. Solomon Rajkumar emphasized ICAR-CCARI’s dedication to translating research into tangible stakeholder benefits. He also highlighted the role of the institute’s Agri-Business Incubation Centre (AGNI) in supporting entrepreneurs interested in agriculture and allied sectors.
