Dr. Grinson George, Director, ICAR-CMFRI and Member Research Advisory Committee Visited ICAR-CCARI, Goa
Dr. Grinson George, Director ICAR-CMFRI, Kochi and Member of the Research Advisory Committee (RAC) visited different farms, units and facilities at ICAR-CCARI, Goa On 30th December 2024 and had an active interaction with the scientists of the institute. Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director of ICAR-CCARI, briefed Dr. George about various research and development activities of the institute. During his visit to fish farm ponds and public aquarium facility at the institute, Dr. George highlighted the scope of aquaculture in the coastal region and emphasized on strengthening the facilities and highlighting the activities of fishery units. He has also visited the floating fish cage cum duck unit and ornamental fish culture facility.
He was also exposed to the livestock units (dairy, piggery, rabbit and poultry units), fodder cafeteria and agro-ecotourism unit. Dr. George congratulated the CCARI team for creating a unique facility for the value addition from cattle dung including biogas and phosphate rich organic manure (PROM). He was also keen to understand the functioning of the Jalopchar unit where all the waste water from livestock units are being effectively filtered and then further used for irrigation in the fodder units. Dr. George appreciated the technical support rendered by ICAR-CCARI Scientists to improve the income and livelihood of the coastal farmers.
Dr. Shirish Narnaware, Dr. Sreekanth GB and Shri Trivesh Mayekar, scientific team of CCARI coordinated the visit.
