ICAR-KVK, North Goa Conducted Training on 'Importance of Feeding Green Fodder in Dairy Cattle' at Mayem under TDC-NICRA
ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, North Goa, ICAR-CCARI, Goa, organized a training on "Importance of Feeding Green Fodder in Dairy Cattle" under TDC-NICRA at Mayem on January 8, 2025. The event aimed to educate local farmers about the benefits of sustainable fodder practices.
Dr. N. Bommayasamy, Senior Scientist & Head, ICAR-KVK, North Goa, welcomed the farmers. He emphasized the significance of integrating agronomical practices into fodder cultivation and highlighted the economic advantages of feeding green fodder to dairy animals. He suggested that it could serve as a cost-effective alternative, substantially lowering overall milk production costs.
Dr. Udharwar S.V., SMS (Animal Science), enlighten the nutritional value of green fodder for dairy animals. He also explained the cultivation of perennial fodder varieties, such as the Hybrid Napier (Co-5 variety), which can yield between 350 to 400 tons/ha/year, with seven cuttings in favourable Goan climatic conditions. He emphasized how these varieties could improve milk yield and enhance the productivity of dairy farming in the region.
Mr. Rahul Kumar, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy), provided valuable insights into the overall importance of fodder crops and their role in maintaining soil health and improving agricultural sustainability. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Rahul Kumar. A total of 11 farmers, including 5 males and 6 females, participated in the training program. The event was coordinated by Dr. Udharwar S.V., Dr. N. Bommayasamy, Mr. Rahul Kumar, and Ms. Shishira D.
