ICAR-CCARI, Goa organized a one-day training program on “Scientific Goat Farming” and goat distribution for Farmers from Maharashtra under STC

    The Institute organized a one-day training program on “Scientific Goat Farming” and goat distribution for 17 ST farmers from Palghar district of Maharashtra on 5th September 2024. The program started with an inaugural session which was presided by Dr. A. Raizada, Director (In charge), Dr. Shirish D. Narnaware, Section in charge and Scientists of Animal and Fisheries Science Section. The Director and the scientists briefed the farmers about the scope and importance of goat farming and encouraged the participants to take up goat farming on a larger scale with good marketing strategies to improve their livelihood and meet the growing demands for goat meat. Theory classes on important aspects of goat farming viz. feeding management, reproductive management, housing of goats, goat diseases, health care management, and management of pregnant goats and kids were delivered. Participants were given a copy of the vaccination and de-worming schedule to be followed in goats. The participants were also shown management practices like feed mixture preparation, application of various commonly used medicines and the different types of fodder grasses maintained at the farm. 10 farmers were provided with 1 male and 2 female goats each and 100 Kg goat feed pellet. Also, hybrid Napier fodder cuttings were distributed to the farmers. The program concluded with an interactive session of farmers with scientists and certificate distribution.
