ICAR-KVK, North Goa, ICAR CCARI Goa conducted one day training on ‘Scientific Goat Farming’

 

The ICAR-KVK, North Goa, ICAR-CCARI, Goa organized a one-day training program on "Scientific Goat Farming" on 27th  December 2024 at the Sal Training Hall, KVK North Goa, Ela, Old Goa. Dr. Shirish Narnaware, Senior Scientist in Veterinary Pathology, delivered a detailed lecture on various bacterial and viral diseases affecting goats, along with their preventive measures, including symptoms, transmission, and control strategies.

Dr. Udharwar Sanjaykumar Vithalrao, In-charge Head of KVK and Subject Matter Specialist in Animal Science, discussed the most suitable goat breeds for Goa, such as Konkan Kanyal, and highlighted scientific farming practices. He covered goat housing design, feeding techniques, and conducted hands-on training on low-cost concentrate feed preparation, silage making, and the cultivation of hybrid Napier grass. He also shared essential information on medicines for routine health management and disease prevention.

Mr. Rahul Kumar, SMS (Agronomy), explained the cultivation of Azolla as a highly nutritious feed for goats, discussing the ideal growing conditions and its integration into feeding systems to reduce costs and improve nutrition.

The training program was coordinated by Dr. Udharwar Sanjaykumar Vithalrao, Mr. Rahul Kumar, and Mr. Vishwajeet Prajapati. A total of 12 participants, including 8 male and 4 female, attended the program.
