ICAR-CCARI, Goa organized a Goat distribution cum demonstration program under STC
A goat distribution program was conducted at ICAR-CCARI on 22nd February 2024 under the Scheduled Tribe Component (STC) Program. A total of 8 Scheduled Tribe farmers from North and South Goa districts were selected who had experience in livestock farming. Each farmer was provided a pair of male and female Konkan Kanyal goats and 10 Kg feed. Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, highlighted the STC scheme and how it is beneficial to the farmers. He also briefed the importance of goat farming in coastal areas for sustainable livelihood security of the farmers and the need to breed the animals, increase herd size, and continue goat farming with scientific management practices. Dr. Shirish D. Narnaware, section in-charge of Animal and Fisheries Science, emphasized on scientific rearing and management of goat farming. The Program was co-ordinated by Dr. Susitha Rajkumar, Senior Scientist. She explained the importance of balanced feeding and vaccination for the rearing of healthy goats and demonstrated the application of essential medicines and vitamin supplements for proper health management. The farmers were also shown different feed ingredients and concentrate feed mix preparation. In addition, extension folders on goat farming were also distributed to the farmers during the event.
