ICAR-CCARI, Goa represented in G20 Technical Workshop on ‘Climate Resilient Agriculture’

    The Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare organized the G20 Technical Workshop on “Climate Resilient Agriculture” during 4-6 September 2023 at Hyderabad. The theme of the event “Vasudhaika Kutumbam” signifies that the whole world is a family. For the past two decades, ICAR has been working on developing climate-resilient crop varieties/technologies, and so far around 1880 climate-resilient technologies have been developed across various crops.

The coastal ecosystem is one of the most vulnerable to the effects of climate change being present as a transition between the water and land. ICAR – Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa, India is a premier organization working on the agriculture, livestock, and fisheries sector of the coastal region of the country. During the prestigious event, Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, presented on ‘Climate, Resilient Coastal Agriculture: Research Needs and Innovations’. He deliberated on global trends, challenges, opportunities, issues, innovations, strategies, and expectations from the G20 nations with particular relevance to the coastal region. The strategies of integrated farming systems, soil and water conservation, agro-ecotourism, livestock and fish production technologies for climate resilience in coastal agriculture were informed and described to the delegates from the G20 nations, invited nations and CGIAR institutions.

The strategies for sustainable development of the coastal region were presented and discussed in line with the ‘Back to Basics’ and ‘March to Future’, ‘Per Drop, More Crop’ and ‘Healing our One Earth’. Further, expectations from the G20 Nations were discussed, keeping in view India’s G20 Priority- Creating Harmony within our ‘One Family’.
