Inauguration of Feed Block Unit and laying foundation stone for the Poultry houses at ICAR CCARI Old Goa

Dr. Pramod Sawant, Hon’ble Speaker of Legislative Assembly, Govt. of Goa laid the foundation stone for the Poultry houses on 1st May, 2017 and inaugurated the Feed Block Unit funded under Rastriya Krishi Vigyan Yojana in the presence of Dr. R. N. Chatterjee, Director, ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad. On the occasion Dr. Pramod Sawant emphasized strongly on increasing awareness about the research and development activities undertaken by ICAR CCAR, Old Goa for greater benefits to the farming community. Dr. R. N. Chatterjee, elaborated the importance of the poultry sector and different activities of the ICAR – PDP, Hyderabad. The Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Government of India has initiated “Poultry Seed Project” (PSP) at ICAR-Central Costal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa during the XII five-year plan with a budgetary allocation if Rs. 203.57 Lakhs. The main objective of ICAR-Poultry Seed Project is to augment egg and meat production in the state of Goa through rural backyard poultry production covering 5,000-15,000 farm families per annum and linking small scale poultry producers with organized market. To progress this project in the state of Goa, civil works comprising of a Poultry Brooder cum Grower House (2200 Sq. feet area) and a Poultry Parent house (3000 Sq. feet area) has also been sanctioned. The civil works for this project is being executed through Central Public Works Department, Goa. During this ceremony, Dr. E.B Chakurkar, Director ICAR-Central Costal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa welcomed the dignitaries and briefed the house about the activities of the center in the direction of “Doubling Farmers Income by 2022”. During the ceremony chicks of Srinidhi strain of backyard poultry was distributed to the farmers. The Scientist, Technical staff, Administrative staff and other staff members were present on this occasion. Dr. R. S. Rajkumar, Scientist (LPT) proposed vote of thanks.
