Progressive fish farmers from Karnataka visits ICAR-CCARI

Two Karnataka state award winning progressive fish farmers visited the institute and exposed to the fisheries section and hatchery units on 24 July 2024. Shri Ravi Kharvi, an innovative cage fish farmer from Thallur and Shri. Mahesh Bhat, freshwater fish farmer from Brahmavara appreciated the efforts of ICAR-CCARI to improve the income and livelihood of fishermen. The technology of crab fattening was enquired by Shri Ravi Kharvi and the advisories were given. The seabass polyculture including the tilapia and indigenous fishes was adopted by Shri Mahesh Bhat and advisories were given. The crab fattening units, estuarine fish traps and small-scale ornamental fish tanks were distributed to the farmers for adoption, validation and popularisation. The farmers also requested the support for marketing of their produce in Goa or other parts of the coastal region linking with the institute. The farmers expressed their sincere gratitude towards ICAR-CCARI for the technical support and assured whole hearted co-operation in the research and development initiatives.  Dr Sreekanth GB, Shri Trivesh Mayekar- Scientist (Fish genetics and breeding) and Mr. Melbin Lal (YP 2) coordinated the programme.
