Exposure visit and interaction with the progressive farmers from coastal Karnataka

    Shri Ravi Kharvi, Shri. Lakshman Maravanthe (from Kundapura, Udupi) and Shri. Ramachandra Gouda (from Kumta, Uttara Kannada), progressive farmers from coastal Karnataka visited the institute on 2 January 2025. Shri. Ravi Kharvi, National Marine Fish Farmer Award winner for the year 2024 was felicitated by Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, Goa. Shri Ravi expressed heartfelt thanks to the scientific team of ICAR-CCARI and also assured continuous support for the research and development activities. Further, a farmer-scientist interaction was arranged in the meeting hall to discuss the development of various farming enterprises such as scientific goat farming and coastal aquaculture. The scientists from Animal Science and Fisheries Sciences assured all the technical guidance for the farmers for their future endeavors.  The farmers also expressed their interest to collaborate and work together by signing a memorandum for contract/consultancy research project. The farmers were also exposed to different units of the institute such goat, buffalo, diary and piggery, fish farm, rice and coconut based integrated farming systems, mango, cashew, biogas, value added product unit from cow dung, vermicompost, jeevamrut, and waste water treatment facility. The farmers appreciated the research and extension activities of the institute that fulfil the needs of the coastal region. Dr Shirish Narnaware, Dr Solomon Rajkumar, Dr Susitha Rajkumar, and Dr Sreekanth GB, scientific team of CCARI coordinated the programme.
