ICAR HRM training programme on Ecosystem Modelling and Ecosystem Service analysis in coastal ecology at ICAR-CCARI, Goa

   

      ICAR-CCARI organized ICAR HRM sponsored online training programme on Ecosystem Modelling and Ecosystem Service analysis in coastal ecology from 14 to 18 October 2024. The training was attended by 46 participants (29 men and 17 women, 4 scheduled caste candidates) covering scientific/technical staff from ICAR, faculties from SAU, SMS from KVK, research associate, and Scholars (PhD and MSc.) from the National Agricultural Research System. The participants represented 14 states (7 coastal states, and 7 inland states including northeastern region) and two union territories (Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar Islands) of India. The training programme was focused on building capacity with respect to modelling of coastal ecosystems providing awareness on ecosystem modelling, hands on trials of Ecopath modelling software, biodiversity analysis software and ArcGIS. Through the software demonstrations, the participants were exposed to ecosystem characterization of estuaries/freshwater ecosystems, integrated farming systems, river basin models, flood mapping and modelling, coastal agricultural information system and watershed delineation. The methodology for the assessment of ecosystems services of agroforestry systems and estuaries were discussed. The participants appreciated the efforts of the institute for organizing the online training in a systematic manner to experience the hands-on operation of the software. Dr Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI in his remarks requested the participants to apply the knowledge gained for ecosystem analysis in respective ecosystems. He has also urged them for the collaboration with the institute for research and extension. Dr Sreekanth GB, Dr Sujeet Desai and Shri Trivesh Mayekar- scientists from CCARI coordinated the HRM training programme. Dr Sujeet Desai, HRD nodal officer proposed vote of the thanks and requested the participants to act as contributors for the Coastal Agricultural Information System- the flagship web portal of the institute. The technical support team of the training included Smt. Pranjali Wadekar, and Shri. Vishwajeet Prajapati, technical officers (computer) of CCARI.
