ICAR-KVK North Goa Conducted two days Training on ‘Scientific Management on dairy farming’
ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), North Goa, under ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI), organized a two-day training on "Scientific Management of Dairy Farming" at the Sal Training Hall, KVK North Goa, Ela, Old Goa, on December 9-10, 2024.
Dr. Udharwar S. V., Subject Matter Specialist (Animal Science) and In-Charge of KVK, encouraged farmers to adopt scientific practices in dairy farming and emphasized the value addition of cow milk, dung, and urine. He provided insights into scientific housing, feeding, and management of calves, heifers, pregnant, and lactating cows. Additionally, he conducted hands-on training on low-cost concentrate feed preparation, silage preparation, cultivation of hybrid Napier fodder, deworming, and first aid for cattle.
Dr. Shirish Narnaware, Senior Scientist (Veterinary Pathology), discussed common metabolic diseases in cattle and their preventive measures. Dr. Susitha Rajkumar, Senior Scientist (Veterinary Pathology), addressed viral and bacterial diseases in cattle and their prevention. Dr. Gokuldas P. P., Senior Scientist (Animal Reproduction), focused on scientific reproductive management, particularly the care and management of pregnant cows. Mr. Rahul Kumar, SMS (Agronomy), delivered a talk on azolla cultivation and its application as an alternative protein source for cows and buffaloes. Mr. Rahul Kulkarni, ACTO (Soil Science), explained effective waste management of cattle manure.
The training program was coordinated by Dr. Udharwar S. V., Dr. Gokuldas P.P., Dr. Susitha Rajkumar, Dr. Shirish Narnaware, Mr. Rahul Kumar, Mr. Rahul Kulkarni, and Mr. Vishwajeet Prajapati. Thirteen participants, including nine males and four females, attended the program.
