Field visit to recirculatory system of crab culture established at Goa

A field visit was organised to the recirculatory system of crab culture unit recently established at Cuncolim, Goa under the PMMSY scheme through Department of Fisheries, Govt. of India on 8 August 2024. Based on the request received from the farmer, Mr. Soaris D., the unit was visited and necessary advisories on the standard operating procedure of crab fattening were given. The advisories were mainly focused to prevent the damages (loss of legs, chela and other body parts) during the handling process and culture operations. The farmer appreciated the efforts from ICAR-CCARI, Goa for providing field level technical backstopping to the farmers. The novel crab fattening units prepared by ICAR-CCARI were handed over to the farmer for the trials in estuarine waters. Dr Sreekanth GB, Shri Trivesh Mayekar- Scientist (Fish genetics and breeding)) and Mr. Melbin Lal (YP 2) coordinated the filed visit. The final year students of Bachelor of Fisheries Science from KUFOS, Kochi carrying out their rural fisheries work experience programme at ICAR-CCARI also participated in the programme.
