Interaction with traditional scheduled tribe fishermen from Cacra, Zuari estuary, Goa
The traditional fishermen, Shri Sanjay Pereira and Shri Lakshman S from Shri Sateri Fishermen Association (an association of scheduled tribe (ST) traditional fishermen of Goa), Cacra, Zuari estuary, Goa visited the institute on 21 November 2024. They interacted with the scientific team of CCARI and explored various opportunities for collaboration. The fishermen expressed sincere thanks for the efforts of ICAR-CCARI in the previous years for documenting the fisheries of Zuari estuary, and providing the sustainable fishing gears for the ST fishermen of the region. They were also exposed to different animal and fisheries units of the institute such cattle unit, piggery, biogas, value added product unit from cow dung, vermi-compost, jeevamrut, waste water treatment facility, ornamental fish culture, pond fish culture and duck cum fish cage unit. The team appreciated the ongoing research and extension activities of the institute and expressed interest in seabass polyculture, sustainable fishing gears and traps, duck cum fish cage unit, and ornamental fish culture. Dr Sreekanth GB, Sr. Scientist (FRM) and Shri Trivesh Mayekar, Scientist (FGB) co-ordinated the programme.
