ICAR-CCARI, Goa Participated in Breed Registration Certificate Distribution Ceremony at National Agricultural Science Complex, New Delhi"
ICAR-CCARI, Goa actively participated in the ‘Breed Registration Certificate Distribution Ceremony’ organized by ICAR-National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources (NBAGR), Karnal, held at the National Agricultural Science Complex, New Delhi, on 17th January 2025. The ceremony was inaugurated by Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary, Department of Agriculture Research and Education (DARE) and Director General (DG). The event was graced by several prominent dignitaries, including Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Commissioner of Animal Husbandry, Government of India; Dr. Raghavendra Bhatta, Deputy Director General (Animal Science) of ICAR; Dr. Triveni Dutt, Director of ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Bareilly; and Dr. A.K. Mishra, Director of ICAR-NBAGR, Karnal.
During the ceremony, Dr. Udharwar Sanjaykumar Vithalrao, SMS (Animal Science) from ICAR-KVK, North Goa, ICAR-CCARI, Goa, was presented with the Animal Breed Registration Certificate for the official recognition of Goa’s Indigenous cattle breed, Shweta Kapila. The breed was registered by the Breed Registration Committee of ICAR under the accession number: INDIA CATTLE_3500_SHWETAKAPILA_03048. Dr. Eknath B. Chakurkar, Dr. Santosh Desai, and Dr. Shivasharappa N. were also involved as applicants for the registration of this breed. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the preservation and recognition of indigenous livestock breeds in India, with Goa's Shweta Kapila Breed officially documented in the National Animal Genetic Resources database.
