ICAR-CCARI Goa organized a training-cum-interaction and distribution program for farmers of Bardez taluka, Goa under NABARD funded poultry project

    A training-cum-interaction program was organized for the farmers of Bardez Taluka at Aldona Institute, Aldona on 18th November 2024 under the NABARD funded project entitled “Promotion of Improved Indigenous Backyard Poultry through Scientific Interventions for Sustainable Poultry Production and Livelihood Security in Goa.” A total of 34 farmer-beneficiaries attended the program. Dr Amiya Ranjan Sahu, Scientist (AGB) and Co-PI of the project addressed the gathering with the objectives of the project and asked participants to flag the issues faced in poultry rearing. Dr Shirish Narnaware, Senior Scientist (Veterinary Pathology) & Section In-charge of Animal and Fisheries Sciences, discussed various bio security and health care measures for prevention and management of diseases in poultry. He provided practical solutions to the farmers' queries, particularly regarding egg-laying concerns. Mrs Rajeshri Wangnekar, AGM NABARD, Goa was also present and interacted with the farmers with their feedback about this project. The team also visited few of the farmers’ fields to check the status of the poultry flock, health condition and egg production performance of the chicks provided under the project. At the end of the programme, each farmer beneficiary received 50 kg of layer feed and a technical bulletin to aid in poultry management. The program was assisted by the project assistant Mr Narayan Gawas.
