ICAR – CCARI, Goa organizes Skill Development Training on “Scientific Backyard Poultry” @ Azadi Ka Amrit Mahostav
ICAR – Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI) and ICAR – Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), North Goa organized three days Skill Development Training on “Scientific Backyard Poultry” from 09 to 11 March, 2022 funded by Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR – CCARI in his address spoke about the scenario of poultry farming in Goa. He addressed the issues raised by the farmers regarding availability of chicks and feed. He also requested the farmers to use the skill and knowledge gained in this skill development training to start poultry farming and bridge the gap between supply and demand of eggs and chickens which will be instrumental in making Goa “AATMANIRBHAR” in the field of poultry. Shri H. R. C. Prabhu, Sr. Scientist and Head In-charge, ICAR – KVK, North Goa, requested the trainees to fully utilize these opportunities and start poultry enterprise. Dr. R. Solomon Rajkumar, Senior Scientist (Livestock Products Technology) and In-charge (Animal Science and Fishery Science) urged the trainees to form groups and start poultry nursery at block level to mitigate the problem of availability of chicks. Smt. Sunetra Talualikar, SMS (Home Science) welcomed the dignitaries and highlighted on importance of poultry farming in doubling farmers income. During the three days training programme several important aspects of poultry farming were discussed. It was followed by practical sessions and field visits to Institute poultry farm, Government poultry farm, Ela and KVK’s poultry farm. Total 116 poultry farmers from the state of Goa participated in this training programme. The training was coordinated by Dr. Monica Suresh Singh, SMS (Agril. Extn.) and Dr. Nibedita Nayak, Scientist (Poultry Science) and was documented by Shri Vishwajeet Prajapati, Technical Officer (Computers).
