Arecanut harvester cum sprayer distributed to Schedule Tribal farming community
ICAR-CCARI, KVK, North Goa, distributed the arecanut harvester cum sprayer to the Schedule Tribe farming community of Kunkolin village on 22.08.2024 under tribal sub plan. Dr Parveen Kumar, the Director of ICAR-CCARI in Goa, advised the farming community to adopt improved farm equipment that minimizes the tediousness of agricultural operations. Farmers will be able to reduce their operating costs and enhance their working efficiency by utilizing this equipment. An arecanut harvester is more appropriate for an intercropping system consisting of arecanuts and black peppers. It is more useful for the farmer to harvest the arecanuts and apply plant protection chemicals without causing a disturbance to the black pepper growth. Dr N Bommayasamy, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK, explained ways to operate and use the arecanut harvester cum sprayer. Because the arecanut harvester cum sprayer is a lightweight device that can be adjusted in height up to 60 feet. It is equipped with a double locking mechanism, making it more convenient for the farming community, especially in situations where there is a shortage of labour. Mr. Rahul Kulkari, ACTO (Agronomy), discusses the efficient use of arecanut waste recycling and leaf sheath utilization. As part of the parthenium awareness week, Mr Rahul Kumar, SMS (Agronomy), was briefed on the various control measures, parthenium composting techniques, and parthenium's harmful effects. Nineteen scheduled tribal members, 10 males and nine females, participated in this event. Three different farmer groups, Amshe, Walwado, and Magilwad, participated and benefited from this event. Dr N.Bommayasamy, Mr. Rahul Kulkarni, Mr. Rahul Kumar, Dr Sanjaykumar Udharwar and Mr Vishwajeet Prajapathi coordinated the program.
