AQUA Goa Mega Fish Festival 2014

    Fisheries section of ICAR Research complex for Goa actively participated with a scientific exhibition stall in AQUA Goa Mega Fish Festival 2014 organised by Directorate of Fisheries, Govt. of Goa in collaboration with the National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad at Navelim from 31st January to 2nd February 2014. Governor of Goa Bharat Vir Wanchoo inaugurated three days mega event on 31st January, 2014, organised for the first time in Goa.

    Speaking on the occasion Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo said that Goa being a coastal State this festival is a significant event in the calendar of activities of the State. Fishing has been a major and important economic activity for a sizeable section of the people of Goa. A large segment of the local population depends on fishing activities for their livelihood. Considering the economic and employment potential of this sector, the Government is making serious, strenuous and planned efforts to promote this activity in an extensive and innovative manner, and in promoting the use of modern technology in order to increase fish production and to support the economy of the State and the people. This festival, Governor said is an important step towards that end. New ventures based on sea foods can be planned which will offer ample employment opportunities and economic prosperity to the people of the State.
