Animal health campaign organized by ICAR-KVK, CCARI, North Goa under TDC-NICRA.

A day long animal health camp was organized by the ICAR-KVK, North Goa, ICAR-CCARI Goa, in collaboration with the Department of Animal Husbandry, Goa, on February 14, 2024, in Mayem village, Bicholim taluka under the Technology Demonstration Component- National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (TDC-NICRA) project. Dr N. Bommayasamy, Senior Scientist & Head of KVK North Goa, briefed the audience about the project activities implemented in this village. He urged livestock farmers to reduce animal stress due to climatic factors, diseases, and adopt proper shelter management. During the campaign, Dr Shrish D. Narnaware, Dr Gokuldas, P. P., and Dr Udharwar S.V. scientists-ICAR observed several vital issues, including lack of fodder, repeated breeding, subclinical mastitis, and metritis affecting crossbred cows. Besides that, scientists and specialists interacted with 20 farmers during the animal health camp and guided them on clean milk production, reproductiion management, supplementary feed and fodder management. Dr. Udharwar S.V. demonstrated teat dip cup technology, intramammary tubes, and proper milking methods to prevent mastitis. One hundred & twenty-seven animals, including cows and buffaloes, were treated during the camp, and mineral mixtures, deworming tablets, and other essential veterinary medicines were distributed to the beneficiaries. The entire team of Veterinary officers visited fields of twenty dairy farmers. A team of scientists consisting of Dr Shrish D. Narnaware, Dr Gokuldas, P. P., Dr N. Bommayasamy, Dr Thomas Edison (State Veterinary Dept), and Dr Udharwar S.V., (SMS) coordinated the program.
