Annual Review Meeting of ICAR - All India Coordinated Research Project on Pig and Mega Seed Project held during 6-7 June, 2016 at ICAR - CCARI, Goa
The Annual Review Meeting of ICAR - All India Coordinated Research Project on Pig and Mega Seed Project was held during 6-7 June, 2016 at ICAR - CCARI, Goa. During the Inaugural session Dr. Narendra Pratap Singh, Director, ICAR - CCARI, Goa welcomed the Chief Guest Shri Francis D'souza, Deputy Chief Minister of Goa and other dignitaries, Dr R.S. Gandhi (ADG AP&B, ICAR), Dr D.K. Sarma (Director, NRC on Pig), Dr Vineet Bhasin (PS, ICAR) and Dr Santosh Desai, (Director, Dept. of AH&VS).
Dr. Narendra Pratap Singh briefed about the activities and technologies developed by the Animal Sciences Section at ICAR-CCARI. Dr. D.K Sarma in his speech stressed upon the importance of pig production in the view of increasing demand of pork due to ever increasing human population. Dr. R.S. Gandhi elaborated on the importance conservation of local germplasm. Dr. Santosh Desai threw light on the status of piggery in Goa, the different services provided by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services to the pig farmers. The progressive pig farmer Mr. Custodio Fernandes expressed his views on how artificial insemination technology improved his pig farming and economic status. He also expressed his concern towards market price fluctuation due to import of pigs from neighboring states and disease spread. Deputy Chief Minister Shri Francis D'souza urged the scientist to characterize and multiply the local breeds of pigs which are more disease resistant than the exotic pigs.
The Technical session was chaired by Dr R.S. Gandhi (ADG AP&B, ICAR), Dr D.K. Sarma (Director, NRC on Pig) and Dr Vineet Bhasin. Dr. During the technical session D.K. Sarma presented Project coordinator report and PI of different AICRP on Pig and Mega Seed Project Centers presented the action taken reports and the research work done. Accordingly the recommendations were made by the chair. Dr. S. Banik (PS, NRC on Pig) and Dr. N. H. Mohan (SS, NRC on Pig) recorded the proceedings.
During the valedictory session Dr. S. Banik and Dr. N.H. Mohan read the meeting proceedings and recommendations. Dr. E.B. Chakurkar, PS, Incharge Animal Science Section proposed the vote of thanks.
