ICAR-CCARI, Goa organized a Training-cum-Demonstration programme on “Scientific Practices in Pig Husbandry” @ Azadi Ka Amrit Mahostav
ICAR- Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa organized three days Training-cum-Demonstration programme on “Scientific practices in pig husbandry” during 21-23 March, 2022 under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) of All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Pig. Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, Goa addressed the participants about importance of pig farming in Goa. He also emphasized the participants to take advantage of this scheme which is sponsored only for ST community to rear pigs. Dr. R. Solomon Rajkumar, Senior Scientist and In-charge (Animal Science and Fishery Science) suggested the trainees to form Self Help Group for better utilization of resources in pig husbandry. Dr. Amiya Ranjan Sahu, Scientist and Co-ordinator of the training explained about pig breeds available in coastal area and their characteristic features. He also demonstrated deworming, vaccination of CSF vaccine, castration, etc. in the Institute pig unit as well as in the farmers’ field in Nagoa village, Goa. Dr. Tushar A. Gaunekar, Assist. Director, STC/FTC/Ext. Wing, Curti, Pond from the state government, Goa delivered lecture on schemes and subsidies available for farmers in state of Goa. The scientists from ICAR-CCARI, Goa Dr. Gokuldas, P.P., Dr. Susitha Rajkumar and Dr. Nibedita Nayak delivered lectures on different aspects of pig reproduction, health care, housing, feeding and management practices in pigs farming. Total 16 participants from different talukas of Goa attended the training and the farmers were supplied with piglets, feed and supplements, weighing balance and feed storage drums. Mr. Sajan Naik (YP-II) documented and assisted in different activities during the training.
