About

1.      District Agro-Met Unit (DAMU)

Weather and climate information plays a vital role in agricultural production and management. In order to provide the weather information and agro-advisories needed for the block/taluka level farming community, India Meteorological Department (IMD) in collaboration with ICAR initiated to set up District Agro-Met Unit (DAMU) at each district across India under Gramin Krishi Mausam Seva (GKMS) scheme.

 

Objectives of DAMU

  • To prepare and issue in time, crop specific, weather based District / Block level Agromet Advisory for next 5 days by AMFUs and DAMUs

  • To collect and organize climate/weather, soil and crop information and to amalgamate them to prepare database for value addition of advisory

  • Real time verification of the forecast and reporting of weather events

  • To enhance the outreach and dissemination of services

  • Collection of feedback and improve the services

2.      AGRO-ADVISORY SERVICE

Agro-advisory services are the farm decisions taken in response to past, current and future weather change. It include agronomical, pest and disease, water and input management. Basic considerations to prepare weather based agro-advisories are weather sensitive crops, their weather sensitive stages and weather sensitive farm operations.

Which are the parts of AGRO ADVISORY Bulletin?

     Agro advisory bulletin include three parts

Part 1: Summary of weather of the past week

Part 2: Weather forecast of coming 5 days from IMD

Part 3: Advisories for farmers

 

What is the use of AGRO ADVISORY SERVICES?

           It helps the farmers to take weather sensitive decisions like sowing/transplanting of crops, pesticide and fertilizer application, scheduling irrigation, timely harvesting of the crops and vaccination of animals.

 

How AGRO ADVISORY SERVICES are disseminated?

           The agro advisory bulletins are prepared every Tuesday and Friday and it is communicated to farmers same day through Institute and KVK websites, WhatsApp messages and also through Facebook.

 

1.      DAMU - North Goa

  •  District Agro-Met Unit (DAMU) for North Goa district has been setup at ICAR-CCARI and KVK, North Goa

  • It covers 5 blocks/talukas of North Goa district (Bardez, Bicholim, Pernem, Sattari and Tiswadi)

  • Weather conditions and weather warnings are received from Regional Meteorological Centre, Mumbai and Meteorological Centre, Goa

  • Weather based Agro-Advisory bulletins are prepared and issued to farmers on every Tuesday and Friday

  • Bulletins are prepared in both English and Konkani languages

  • Agro-Advisory bulletins are disseminated through ICAR-CCARI and KVK-North Goa website,  Meteorological Centre - Goa website, WhatsApp messages and through Facebook, farmers awareness programs and field visits

  • More than 50 village wise WhatsApp groups are created for disseminating the Agro-Advisory bulletins

  • Nearly 3000 farmers are receiving weather information’s and agro-advisories on every Tuesday and Friday

  • It is ensured that, in future it will reach to more number of farmers and more number of farmers get can benefit from these advisories

 MAUSAM is a Mobile App of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India to provide seamless and user-friendly access to weather products available on https://mausam.imd.gov.in/. Users can access observed weather, forecasts, radar images and be proactively warned of impending weather events. The app’s development and deployment is being led jointly by ICRISAT’s Digital Agriculture & Youth (DAY) team and Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) under the Monsoon Mission program of MoES.

Meghdoot is a joint initiative of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and Indian Council for Agriculture Research (ICAR) to bring high resolution weather forecast based agro advisories to farmers in vernacular. The Agro-Met Field Units (AMFU) issue contextualized district and crop wise advisories every Tuesday and Friday. The Meghdoot App allows farmers and interested users to access these advisories in a user friendly manner. The advisories are also issued in vernacular wherever available. Apart from the crop advisory, the app also makes available observed weather and weather forecast.

Damini Lightning apps is developed by IITM-Pune and ESSO. The apps is monitoring all lightning activity which are happening in specifically for all India. and alert you if lightning is happening near you by GPS notification. Under 20KM and 40KM. Details description of instruction, precautions is provided in apps while in lightning prone area. Does and Don't for in specific situation is strictly followed when lightning happen near you for your safety purpose
