International Women’s Day Celebrated
ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Old Goa celebrated International Women’s Day on 10th March 2017. The institute has got an Internal Complaints Committee for Prevention of sexual harassment at Work Place, comprising of Dr. (Mrs.) S.Priya Devi, as Chairperson, Mrs. Lizette Noronha (Member Secretary), and members like Mrs. Manjulekshmi, Scientist (FRM), Mrs. Rita D Silva, AAO (Estt), Mrs. Pranjali Wadekar (Technical Officer) and an external member Mrs. Sandra Fernandes, Green growth Institute, Sangolda. The programme was organised by the committee.
The programme comprised of a meeting and a recipe competition exclusively on pulses. The dishes were evaluated by a panel of judges, Mrs. Suchita Chakurkar, Home maker, Old Goa, Dr. Mathala Juliet Gupta, Scientist (AS&PE) and Mrs. Sunetra Talaulikar, SMS (Home Science), KVK, North Goa.
The meeting was attended by all staff members of the institute. At the outset, Dr.(Mrs.) S.Priya Devi briefed upon the history of International Women’s Day and also about the Vishaka guidelines and the Act in proper.. The role of Internal Complaints Committee in Prevention of sexual harassment at Work Place was also briefed. The function was presided over by Dr. E.B.Chakurkar, Director (A), who welcomed the gathering and presented bouquets to the guests. He spoke about the importance of women and the inherent strength and potentialities they have got. He stressed it needs to be only ignited to be realised practically. Then, Ms. Caroline Colaco, Advocate, Panjim, who works for the cause of women’s rights deliberated upon the rights of women and on the domestic violence and sexual harassment at work place. She quoted various examples from the cases those she has dealt with in her professional career. Then, Ms. Sandra Fernandes, Green growth Institute, Sangolda spoke about the attitude a woman should have to love, admire and respect herself. Last but not the least, Ms. Neeru Goel, Freelance physiotherapist, interacted in detail with the staff about health score, that we can give ourselves, the factors that influence our health etc. She talked about the balance in nature, the gender realisation, the human health, health care etc.
At the end, mementoes were presented to the resource persons by the Director, and the prizes for recipe competition were given away by the Director and Mrs. Suchita Chakurkar. The prizes were sponsored by Green Growth Institute, Sangolda. The first prize was bagged by Ms. Annabel, for Hummus and filafel, second prize by Ms. Shilpika Chari, for a sweet dish and the third prize was shared by Mr. Omar De Souza, for Baked beans with baguette and saltere, and Ms. Shejal Porob for mixed pulses kofta.
The meeting ended with vote of thanks proposed by Mrs. Pranjali Wadekar, Technical Officer (AKMU), followed by tea and refreshments.
