Production of Virgin Coconut Oil and Other Value Added Products

 

Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) is extracted from fresh coconut meat without chemical processes is said to be “mother of all oils”. It is rich in medium chain fatty acids, particularly lauric acid and is a treasure trove of all minerals, vitamins, antioxidants and it is an excellent nutraceutical knowing the health & medicinal value. Virgin Coconut Oil project was approved under RKVY assistance in 2015 and the unit is full fledged with all machineries like Testa Remover, Pulveriser, Milk Expeller, Electric Dryer, VCO Cooker.

 Three days Entrepreneurship Development Programme was organized on “Production of Virgin Coconut Oil and Other Value Added Products” at Krishi Vigyan Kendra –North Goa, Ela, Old Goa from 17th -19th August 2017 in collaboration with CPCRI, Kasargod.

Dr. E.B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CCARI ,Dr. A R Desai Sr. Scientist Horticulture,  Dr. S PriyaDevi Sr. Scientist Horticulture,   and  Mr. H.R.C. Prabhu, Programme Coordinator I/C,   interated with participants and shared views and experience.Value added product like coconut sugar, coconut chutney and coconut Chocolate was demonstrated to the participants. About 25 participants from different village attended the programme and was coordinated by Mrs.  Sunetra Talaulikar, SMS (Home Science).
