Entrepreneurship Training for SC Beneficiaries of Coastal Region in Vacuum Fried Technology based Processing Units

A two day training program on “Entrepreneurship Training for SC Beneficiaries of Coastal Region in Vacuum Fried Technology based Processing Units” was organized on 10-11 June, 2019 at the ICAR- Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa with funding received under Scheduled Caste Sub Plan Component, Government of India By Dr. (Mrs.) Mathala Juliet Gupta, Scientist (Agricultural Structures and Process Engineering) and Dr. (Mrs.) S. Priya Devi, Principal Scientist (Fruit Science). Around Sixty three trainees  from Ussap, Nonada, Goa, Harijanwada, Maulinguem, Bicholim, Goa, Shivapur, Kudal,  Maharashtra, Pawashi, Sawantwadi, Maharashtra attended the training program in which they were given training on value addition of Jackfruit using time saving machinery, hands on training on value addition techniques and products, use of  Vacuum fryer for quality frying  of products like ripe Jackfruit bulbs, Banana chips, Chiku fruit slices, ripe mango slices, Chickpea, garlic, ladies fingers by Sh. Hassan Mohammed, Taimim Foods. The trainees were also sensitized about setting up of processing plants for value addition and livelihood enhancement. The government procedures and support for setting up of processing plants were explained in detail by Dr. P.P. Kulkarni, Deputy Director, MSME, Goa. To motivate the trainees , Mr. Japhar Manalody, Managing director, Kozhikodens, Agro Foods & Exporters, Kozhikode, Kerala shared his success story from a small scale Jackfruit chips processor to multicrore exporter of Processed Jackfruit and Banana products to USA, Australia, Singapore, Dubai etc. The Training concluded with certificate distribution to the participants by the Director, Dr. E.B. Chakurkar, who motivated the trainees to make a beginning in processing local produce and promised to support them whenever required. Dr. Ramesh, Principal Scientist (Plant Pathology) also distributed the Institute developed Bioformulation, Goa Bio 1 to the interested farmers and Dr. S. Priya Devi distributed  varied quality planting material of perennial crops like aonla, lemon, sapota, arecanut and nutmeg  to the beneficiaries under SCSP scheme.
