Purvashada: Vet (Rattan cane)

‘Rattan cane’ is also called as ‘Rattan palm’. The fruit of this plant is edible and yields an astringent resin ‘Dragon blood’. This is used as a dye and in painting, to treat respiratory and gastrointestinal disorders. It also possesses wound healing property. The wood vermifuge, roots are used to treat chronic fever and antidote for snake venom. The alternate plant recommended is Sita Ashoka (Saraca asoka, family: Caesalpinaceae).
