Felicitation Ceremony for Awardees of Plant Genome Saviour Farmers Award

ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Old Goa organized a Felicitation Ceremony for the recipients of ‘Plant Genome Saviour Farmers Award’ on 10th January, 2017 at 4.00 pm in the conference Hall of the Institute. Dr. Narendra Prathap Singh, Director, ICAR-NIASM, Baramati was the Chief Guest of the event. Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director(A), ICAR-CCARI, Old Goa welcomed the guests and the participants. The awardees Shri. Ratnakar Velip, President of Khola/Canacona Chilli cultivators Group along with the representative Group members and Shri Prabhakar Keny, a progressive farmer from Cuncolim, South Goa were felicitated by the hands of the Chief Guest for receiving the prestigious ‘Plant Genome Saviour Community Award, 2013-14’ and 'Plant Genome Saviour Farmers Recognition Award, 2014’ respectively. In his address, Dr. N.P Singh urged the farmers to further work towards developing strong marketing channels for better economic benefit. Mrs. Anuradha Naik, Research Associate, IPR Cell briefed the activities of the farmers along with the application process. Apart from this, recipients of Indian Science Congress Young Scientist Award-2016, Dr. Sreekanth G.B. and Dr. Bappa Das, both Scientists of ICAR-CCARI, were also honoured during the event. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director(A) congratulated the awardees for their achievement. He also informed the gathering about upcoming National Symposium on ‘Climate Smart Agriculture for Nematode Management’ to be organized by ICAR-CCARI during 11th to 13th January, 2017. Dr. Gokuldas, P.P. Co-ordinator, IPR cell proposed formal vote of thanks. Dr. R.S. Rajkumar and Dr. Manju Lekshmi, N. also helped in the successful organization of the felicitation event.

ICAR-CCARI team comprising of Dr. A.R. Desai, Sr. Scientist (Hort.); Dr. Narendra Pratap Singh, Former Director; Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director (Acting); Dr. Gokuldas, P.P., IPR Cell Co-ordinator, and Mrs. Anuradha Naik, R.A –IPR Cell facilitated the application process to the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights Authority (PPV&FRA), New Delhi on behalf of the farmers.
