Meen: Vata vruksha (Banyan tree)

Banyan tree is commonly known as Burgad or Vata vruksha. Banyan tree symbolises long life span, strength and prosperity. It is huge evergreen tree with spreaded green leaves and aerial roots. It is used to treat dysentery, diarrhoea, leucorrhoea, menorrhagia and nervous disorders (Patel and Gautham, 2014). The bark and milky juice obtained from it shows antidiabetic activity, seeds are used as coolant and tonic. Rashes are treated by applying the leaf paste. The eye ointment prepared using camphor and Banyan tree latex is used in treating corneal opacity. Joint pains or lumbago can be treated by massaging the affected area externally by latex. Aerial root paste can be used for topical application on pimples. Drinking of bark decoction for whole day can reduce excessive urination.
