Makar: Sissam (Indian rosewood)

 

In ayurveda, sissam is prescribes as a treatment/ remedy for gonorrhoea and skin ailments. The woody bark is known to possess anthelminthic activity, antipyretic and analgesic property. It is also used in boils and leprosy (Bhattacharya et al., 2014). Chewing of leaves twice a day for two weeks can cure piles. The leaf paste is applied topically on abscesses. Mixture of honey and leaf juice can be used as eye drop for eye pain. Topical application of sissam oil can cure skin diseases.
