ICAR-CCARI signs MoU with KUFOS, Kerala for research studies and extension activities

 

    The ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa has signed MoU with Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS). Kochi, Kerala on 8th November 2019 to associate in academic and research studies.

 

    ICAR-CCARI is responsible for the promotion of sustainable and indigenous agricultural practices including fisheries in coastal areas across the country. The Institute is also working with a mission to make coastal agriculture globally competitive through eco-friendly and economically viable agricultural systems including livestock and fisheries for the livelihood and nutritional security. KUFOS is the only University in the country, which cater to the entire spectrum of studies in Fisheries and Ocean studies, imparting scientific knowledge and technical education and engaged in quality academics, research and extension in fisheries and allied subjects.

 

    According to the agreement, Dr. EB Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CCARI mentioned that students of KUFOS could use the research facilities at CCARI in various fields of fisheries, environment and climate change studies. Moreover, the scientists of CCARI will be the visiting faculties for KUFOS. In return, KUFOS will extent support to CCARI to jointly organize research projects, seminars and symposia and training programmes in the field of fisheries sector and other relevant disciplines. Dr. EB Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CCARI and Dr A Ramachandran, Vice-Chancellor, KUFOS has jointly handed over the MoU in the presence of Dr. B Manoj Kumar, Registrar, KUFOS and Dr. Sreekanth GB, Scientist (FRM), ICAR-CCARI.  Hon. Vice Chancellor opined that the students of KUFOS would be able to extend their research activities to various agricultural practices including fisheries of other states, since the CCARI is a multi- disciplinary research organization with research activities in various coastal states. He said both institutions would jointly pursue research programmes on different topics related to ocean studies and climate change, which have impact on fisheries and fishermen community. The heads of the divisions were also present during the occasion.
