Inauguration of new low cost commercial goat unit at ICAR-CCARI, Goa by Secretary, Agriculture, Govt of Goa.

 

A new goat unit with the capacity of 100 animals was inaugurated on 17/06/2017 by Shri. B R Singh, Secretary, Dept of Agriculture, Govt of Goa at ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Old Goa. He appreciated the unit and emphasized to formulate of scheme on goat farming for the benefit of farmers of the state. Dr E B Chakurkar, Director of the institute explained the importance of goat farming as a commercial enterprise. The goat unit is constructed in raised platform with wooden flooring and suitable for hot humid and rainy conditions of Goa. Presently, the institute is maintaining 80 goats of Konkan kanyal breed which is for meat purpose and reared under stall feeding. Elite breeding males and females have been supplied to for farmers for startup. Scientists and technical staff the institute, Dr. Greta. Costa, Asst. Director, Dept of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services are present during the inauguration.
