Consultancy Training Programme on Artificial Insemination in Pigs For Progressive Pig Farmers

          A three day consultancy training programme for progressive pig farmers on Artificial Insemination in Pigs was conducted by ICAR- Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Ela, Old-Goa from 29th June to 1st July 2019. Total of 12 progressive pig farmers from different parts of Maharashtra viz. Mr. Ajay Lahane and Mr.Ankush Dahake from Amravati, Mr. Gopal Sural, Mr. Sushant Gaikwad, Mr. Anurag Gaur from Pune, Dr. Chandrashekhar Saoji from Akola, Mr. Yatin Desale from Palgad, Mr. Ajinkya Tipugade from Kolhapur, Mr. Jitendra Bhandare and Mr. Hanumanth Pagdel from Raigad, Mr. Manoj Padave and Mr. Navin Poojari from Mumbai actively participated in training programme. Dr. E.B.Chakurkar, Director (A) and Coordinator of the training, opened the training session with introductory preamble on Scientific Pig Farming, its importance, advance technologies in piggery and AI in Pigs. Also know how of estrous detection, estrous synchronization and Artificial Insemination in Pigs was discussed at large with participants. This was followed by the practicals in the afternoon where farmers were taught how to detect an estrous, various stages of estrous, perfect stage of estrus with respect to AI. Demonstration on semen collection from boar and its analysis, extension, dose preparation and preservation was shown to the farmers. On the second day individual farmer was given opportunity to identify Sows in perfect estrus followed by actual Insemination. All the participants were give hands on experience of performing A.I. in Pigs. Also scientific method of castration in male pigs was demonstrated by Dr. Sanjaykumar Udharwar, SMS, KVK, North Goa. On third and last day participants were taken to farmers field at Mr. Thomas K.G. from Sal, Bicholim. Training programme was concluded in afternoon in conference hall with group discussions with other scientist of institute followed by valedictory function.
