Seminar on “Improving Fertility in Dairy animals”

           One day technical seminar was organized at ICAR Research Complex for Goa, Old Goa on 14th August 2010.  Strategies to improve the fertility in farm animals particularly Dairy animals were discussed in detail. Field veterinary officers from Department of Animal Husbandry, Goa State Cooperative  Milk producers Union and private practitioners attended the seminar.

            Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar,  Sr. Scientist and  President, ISSAR, Goa Chapter  gave welcome and briefed about  the activities of ISSAR. Shri Gonesh Koyu IAS, Secretary, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Government of Goa inaugurated the seminar and promised that all the facilities like medicine and vehicles will be provided to department Veterinarians for better services. Shri Madhav Sahakari, Chairman,  Goa State Co-op. Milk Producers, Union Ltd. gave scenario  of milk production and dairy industry in Goa.

                 Dr. N.P. Singh, Director, ICAR Research Complex for Goa expressed need to produce sufficient fodder in the State  in his presidential address. He also mentioned that for the economic milk production  factor like  nutrition management and infections   that affect the infertility needs to be taken care. He promised that ICAR will take lead to establish “Fodder Banks”  so that  farmers can get planting material to enhance the  fodder production in coming years.

                 Dr. N. M. Markandaya Professor and Head Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics from Veterinary College, Parbhani delivered special talk on “Fertility Improvement in Dairy animals”. He expressed that production losses can be reduced by correcting the management practices mostly .

   Dr. B. K. Swain, Dr. P .K. Naik ,Dr. Mahendra Bale  and Arjit Remidies have assisted for successful conduction of the seminar.
